Brighton, N.Y.- A teen from Brighton severely injured after the car he was riding in, hit the back of a school bus, is now breathing on his own.
Scott Collins was badly injured in the car crash on Warren Avenue October 9.
On Friday, the Brighton School District released a statement from Scott Collins’ family.
They say Collins continues to receive medical care at Strong Memorial Hospital but is in need of continued treatment. He will be undergoing acute intensive therapy at a specialized facility and he is at the beginning of what will be a long road to recovery.
The district says the family would like to extend their deepest appreciation for the incredible warmth, kindness and support demonstrated by the Brighton school community. Each and every card and well wish is both shared and appreciated.
The teenage driver who hit into the bus is facing charges.
John Zakhary, 16, is charged with reckless driving, speed not reasonable and prudent, failure to stop at a stop sign, failure to keep right, and violation of a restricted junior driver's license.
Zakhary and two other passengers were also hurt in the crash.
