Rochester, N.Y. - About 180 people who work for a food packaging facility are learning they will lose their jobs by the end of the year.
Sealed Air informed employees today that the facility on Brooks Avenue will close in 2012.
The New Jersey-based company makes packaging for food products.
A letter given to employees said they can apply for positions in Arkansas, Texas, and South Carolina.
A severance package will also be offered.
"This was an extremely difficult decision for Sealed Air to make, understanding the impact to our employees and the Rochester community. The Company considered a number of criteria – including operating costs, strategic location, proximity to other facilities and levels of technology – and it was determined we can best serve our global manufacturing strategy from other locations," said Sealed Air spokesman Ken Aurichio.
