Huron, N.Y. – Police continued their search for a North Rose–Wolcott music teacher, 48-year-old Frederick Dunn.
Dunn disappeared Wednesday afternoon.
Divers waded through icy water along the Lake Ontario shoreline Friday.
While rehearsing for a school play, police say Dunn told his students he was going to run errands; he never returned.
Police found Dunn’s car later that night at the end of Dutch Street in the Town of Huron, where it dead ends at Lake Ontario.
Because it’s a small community, many of the first responders know Dunn.
The search proved to be a tough assignment for diver Chad Countryman.
“I had him as a music teacher when I was in high school,” Countryman said.
Countryman said Dunn was a well liked teacher.
“Just willing to help everyone, I did musicals with him in middle school and I enjoyed every minute of it,” Countryman said.
K-9 units and helicopters scoured the area.
Police say they discovered footprints near Dunn's car the night he went missing, but found nothing.
Authorities have also been in touch with Dunn's family and believe there's no indication of foul play.
“We've checked the obvious things, his credit cards and tried to check him that way but there have been no signs,” Wayne County Undersheriff Rick House said. “We've checked his cell phone, those records but at this time no, there's nothing to indicate that's its foul.”
While Dunn's disappearance remains a mystery, a community tries to remain hopeful he'll be found.
“It is kind of difficult,” Countryman said. “I hope to find him, I don't know if we will.”
Police will continue their search Saturday morning.
Divers will conduct an expanded water search.
State Forest Rangers and members of a local chapter of the group Massasauga; a search and rescue organization will help with a ground search.
