(CNN) - Security experts have been sounding the alarm for years but some are predicting this is the year smartphones will be a major target for cybercriminals.

The main reason is smartphones are increasingly being used as mobile wallets.

Cybersecurity experts say mobile payment systems are likely to be the next big target for cybercriminals. Smartphones are run on most of the same software users also use on their computers, making them an easy target for hackers.

Thieves can also use your smartphone to connect to other potentially devices using Bluetooth.

But, the biggest security risk is just old-fashioned carelessness. Data is most often taken from mobile phones when they're lost or stolen and aren't protected by a password.
