Farmington, N.Y. - This has never happened before. Warm weather and lack of snow forced Finger Lakes Race track to cancel its Vision Kia Eastern Nationals Snowmobile race.
The track rescheduled the event for February 24 and 25.
Organizers have been making snow for more than a month but the warm weather the last few weeks made it impossible to make enough snow.
Racers had already arrived in Farmington for the event. They are disappointed, but not surprised. This has happened all over the country because of the mild winter.
Finger Lakes and the International Series of Champions Racing are hoping for a cold snap during the next few weeks. They need temperatures between 15-20 degrees to make snow.
They say trucking in snow isn't an option. For one, it is contaminated with dirt and salt. It also breaks apart easily and is not ideal for snowmobile racing.
Fans can use their tickets for the re-scheduled show or get full refunds at the point of purchase.
