Rochester, N.Y. - A simple message that statistics show isn't always heeded: do not drink and drive. It's a message worth reiterating, and Rochester leaders did just that on Wednesday.
Monroe County leaders announced it's taking part in this month's statewide Stop-DWI campaign. It's a media blitz reminding drivers to make better choices after they've had a few drinks.
"As a prosecutor for 21 years, there's a message I've always been loud and clear about," said District Attorney Sandra Doorley. "Every time a drunk driver gets behind the wheel of the car, there is a serious potential for death of that driver, death of their passengers, and the death of other citizens on the road. It's a very serious problem."
Doorley says DWI arrests and felony DWI arrests have both gone up from 2010 to 2011.
The NYS Stop-DWI Foundation is spearheading this public awareness effort. The foundation is funded by the NYS Governor's Highway Safety Committee.
