Alabama, N.Y. -- A family managed to escape a fire on Macomber Road shortly after 10:30 Sunday morning.

Peter Dart went upstairs to check on his 13-month-old baby when he started to smell smoke. He and his family managed to get out and call 911.

The infant was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation treatment. He has since been released.

It took fire departments from all over Genesee County to control the three-alarm fire. A tanker full of water was also brought to the scene because there wasn't enough nearby to fight the fire.

Fire investigators say the fire was caused by a blanket on an electric heater. The house is considered a total loss.
