Batavia, N.Y. – Money and valuables were stolen from three churches in Batavia

The burglaries happened Saturday night into Sunday morning.  Some damage was done to the churches as well.

The churches involved were St. James Episcopal Church and First Baptist Church on Main Street as well as St. Mary's Church on Ellicott Street.

"It's disturbing, I think anytime anybody has anything stolen it's disturbing but I think in the society we live in we hold our churches as sacred so it does concern people when somebody enters sacred territory, or what's considered sacred, and then destroys it or steals from it" said Detective Rich Schauf, Batavia Police Department.

Det. Schauf said that investigators have some strong evidence that they are working with.

Police aren’t sure if this was the work of one burglar or more.

Anyone with information is asked to share it with the Police Department.  You can call Batavia Police at 585-345-6350 or CrimeStoppers at 585-423-9300.
