Henrietta, N.Y. – Winter has officially arrived in Western New York, meaning it’s time to be extra careful on the roads.
Several cars skidded off roads Saturday, serving as a reminder it’s a good idea for drivers to make sure their tires are safe.
Rusty Russell, service manager at Pep Boys in Henrietta, said snow tires are the best option for the Rochester winter. He also said drivers should check their tire pressure at least once a month.
"Front-wheel-drive cars in particular, you want to make sure that your rear tires aren't losing grip, you're not sliding through corners,” Russell said. “Any time there's a big snowplow effect when you hit slush, that's a good indication that there's loss of traction and it's time to check those tires."
