Webster, N.Y. – Dozens of people held candles and huddled together on a cold street in Webster Wednesday night to remember the two volunteer firefighters killed Monday morning on Lake Road.
Lt. Mike Chiapperini and Tomasz Kaczowka were shot while responding to a house fire.
The crowd also expressed well-wishes to Ted Scardino and Joseph Hofstetter, two firefighters who were injured.
Several West Webster firefighters joined the community gathering Wednesday night.
Webster Fire Department Chief Craig Akins gave some brief remarks, later saying how much he appreciated the show of support.
“It’s heartwarming and sad at the same time,” Akins said.
Barry’s Old School Irish Pub organized the vigil.
