Rochester, N.Y. – Hundreds of people turned out to participate in a walk to defeat ALS at Ontario Beach Park.

ALS, which is most commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a terminal illness that shuts down the body.

The event, emceed by 13WHAM's Jennifer Johnson, was put on by members of the board for the upstate New York chapter for ALS.

“Planning was good, weather was good, volunteers were fantastic, the food is great- you can’t ask for anything more,” said Kathy Lahey, executive director.

The president of the board, Jennifer Whitman DeVoe, said, “We’ve got more people out we’ve got more awareness about what ALS is, and we’re working towards advocacy, and trying to get out there and let people know what ALS is and that we’re available to help them."
