Webster, N.Y. -- Parents like Cynthia Taburet know all about life on the go.She's the mother of an eight and ten-year-old.
Things can get a little hectic, but for her, life will get a little easier this fall.
That’s when Webster middle schools will implement their early start time - 7:30am.
“I think it's really good,” said Taburet. “I think it's going to be a lot easier for parents, all the schools will be on the same start time and same stop time.”
The school district made the decision a few months ago and said it's part of state curriculum.
“It's called the common core and as the entire state moves towards that it's our ability to recapture approximately 60 hours for that additional study with the new curriculum,” said Carmen Gumina, Chief Human Resource Officer with the Webster Central School District.
Not all agree with an earlier start time.
The blog site www.schoolstarttime.org, opposes it because students may get less sleep.
The school says it’s done its research.
“What we found was if you're going to move to a later start time, it was, there might be a difference for high school kids, really didn't see any difference with middle school,” Gumina said.
Gumina says the new schedule gives kids more time to get homework done, how much sleep kids get is up to parents.
“I know it will be hard to get my kids up but some of that is so they'll have more after school time and more educational time,” said parent Dianne Colelli.
“I think that's a responsibility for every parent, even now we're doing it, so whether it's a half hour earlier or a half hour later it's just our responsibility,” said Taburet.
