Webster, N.Y. - Many of those who mourned Sunday never met Mike Chiapperini.

Firefighters, police officers and other first responders came from all over to pay their respects.

At least three thousand first responders braved the cold to honor one of their own.

"It's certainly a sad occasion, it was a little unusual that the fallen hero was both a fireman and a police officer," said Todd Lazcano, a patrol officer from Cornell University.

Responders from across New York State, Canada, and even California made the trip for their brother.

"Just knowing if was role reversal, if something happened to me that guys from New York would come out and support my department, my family," said Mark Lorack a firefighter from the County of Los Angeles.

And it's that support that helped a family and department say goodbye to a hero, one last time.
