Rochester, N.Y. --- Both Republicans and Democrats have settled on candidates to run for the New York State Senate's 55th District this November. It's a seat currently held by longtime incumbent Sen. James Alesi who Wednesday night announced his intent to retire at the end of this year.

The newly drawn 55th District runs from Irondequoit south to Naples and includes a large portion of the City of Rochester as well as other eastern Monroe County towns and western Ontario County towns.

Thursday morning Democrats announced County Legislator Ted O'Brien is the party's candidate. O'Brien is currently the Minority Leader in the Monroe County Legislature where he's served since 2004. He is also a lawyer and the county's former Democratic Party Chairman.

An hour or so later it was Assemblyman Sean Hanna announcing his candidacy at GOP Headquarters. Hanna is also a lawyer and served as the Regional Director of the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation before being elected to the Assembly in 2010.
