Syracuse, N.Y. - Compared to this time last year, 47,000 fewer people have been to the New York State Fair.
This time last year, Hurricane Irene was hitting the Syracuse area.
Vendors say the slow start is hurting business, but they're optimistic things will pick up as the weather in Syracuse gets better.
"It's been really warm today," said Tracy Nichols, manager at the Ashley Lynn Winery booth. "Business has been pretty good, but attendance is down and sales are down a bit, but we're in a great location and things are going as well as they could."
The State Fair runs through Labor Day.
