Albany, N.Y. - New York State is activating its Emergency Operations Center at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday night to monitor the winter storm.
Officials will access emergency needs across the state and coordinate response efforts from several agencies, including the State Police, Department of Transportation, and the Thruway Authority.
A winter storm is expected to bring moderate to heavy snow between Wednesday and Thursday afternoon.
Governor Cuomo is urging residents to take safety precautions. "I urge New Yorkers to closely watch local news reports for weather updates and adjust their travel plans accordingly. All non-essential travel should be avoided during and directly after the storm since roads will be icy with blizzard conditions in some places," Cuomo said.
The Secretary to the Governor sent a letter to the state's utility companies informing them that they will be held accountable for their performance maintaining service during and after the storm.
