NEW YORK (AP) - Friends and relatives of Yoselyn Ortega, the New York City nanny accused of stabbing two young children to death, say she appeared to be struggling emotionally and financially recently.
But few could offer any explanation for what might have caused her to attack the children.
A relative told The New York Post, "She snapped." The sister, Celia Ortega, said the family doesn't know what happened.
The 50-year-old nanny remained hospitalized Saturday from self-inflicted stab wounds.
Police say the children were found dead by their mother when she returned to their Upper West Side apartment and the mother also found Ortega stabbing herself with a knife.
