Albany, N.Y. (AP) – A group of angry firearm owners gathered Saturday at the state Capitol as part of a series of nationwide rallies protesting new gun control proposals.

Perhaps 2,000 people – many carrying American flags and "Don't Tread On Me" banners – turned out for the chilly outdoor rally.

More honked car horns as they drove by, with the crowd chanting, "We the people," ''USA" and "freedom."

The rally took place four days after Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed the nation's toughest assault weapon and magazine restrictions.

Protester Robert Candea called the restrictions "an outrage against humanity."

Republican Assemblyman Steven McLaughlin told the crowd New York state's new law was "abuse of power" by the governor.
