Vatican City (AP) – Pope Francis is urging his countrymen in Argentina to pray for him and to "take care of one another."

He spoke to thousands of people who had gathered in Buenos Aires to watch his installation Mass at the Vatican on giant TV screens. In the message broadcast via loudspeakers to the crowd in Argentina, he said, "Don't forget that this bishop who is far away loves you very much."

To the crowd gathered at the Vatican, Francis said a little bit of tenderness can "open up a horizon of hope."

He urged those gathered for his installation Mass today to protect the environment, the weakest and the poorest – advancing a clear focus of his priorities as leader of the world's 1.2 billion Catholics.

Up to 200,000 people attended Tuesday's ceremony.
