A new study shows seniors with hearing loss are more likely to develop dementia than seniors with no hearing loss.

The study did not prove causality, but concluded the more hearing loss a person has, the more likely they were to develop the memory-robbing disease.

“Very few people who have hearing loss get treated,” said Ramona Pompea of the Rochester Hearing and Speech Center. “Only about 15 percent get it treated.”

The experts say this study should encourage more people to get their hearing tested and treated.
