NEW YORK (AP) - The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is cracking down on daytime drinking among construction workers at ground zero.
Executive Director Pat Foye told the New York Post the agency is increasing the budget for its inspector general and adding investigators for the public-safety effort.
He called the World Trade Center construction the most complicated project anywhere. Foye said "vodka and steel beams and a construction site don't mix."
The zero-tolerance crackdown began last year. It was stepped up after a series of recent accidents at the site.
The PA says it's not clear if the accidents were related to drinking. But it's not taking any chances.
In June, a worker was injured after falling five feet. A day later, a beam crashed into some windows.
