Sidney, N.Y. (AP) - A National Weather Service team is investigating whether a tornado touched down in the Binghamton area.
Severe thunderstorms brought high winds and lashing rain Sunday to the rural town of Sidney, about 30 miles northeast of Binghamton.
Eyewitness reported a funnel cloud touched down. A team from the weather service is visiting Sidney to determine if it was a tornado.
There are no reports of injuries or major damage.
The storms left thousands without power in the Hudson Valley, but only scattered customers were still without power by dawn Monday.
The storm came less than two weeks after a tornado ripped through the Southern Tier city of Elmira.
