Greece, N.Y.—Wednesday night parent representatives from at the Greece Parent-Teacher Association Council met to hear about changes coming to the district.

On Tuesday, the Greece School Board voted unanimously to pass a number of measures that would close three school facilities and consolidate a number of schools. The popular Schools of Choice option would also be altered.

Greece Assistant Superintendent Carol Pallas is in charge of the transition team that will oversee the changes to the district.

“We're asking for a little bit of patience,” Pallas says, “That's difficult. Change is coming [the parents] have a lot of questions and we expect that.”

Pallas says she plans to release a full, comprehensive transition plan next week.

In the process of transition, Pallas says she doesn’t anticipate any problems.

“There may be minor tweaks along the way, but there shouldn't be anything major that we haven't thought through.”

Currently, Pallas is working on putting together a transition team. She hopes to have parents participate on that team.

“Parents will be involved to give us the parental perspective,” she says. “All kinds of things will be helpful to them and they’ll be able to organize events like open houses that would help transition the students.”

Parents with specific questions about the closures and consolidations and how they affect their students are encouraged to call the school district.
