Rochester, N.Y. - Some college students are finding a problem with new teacher evaluation guidelines: it's becoming harder for some student teachers to be placed in schools.
Program coordinators said they are finding resistance from teachers who don't want the future teachers to take over their classroom.
"I don't blame them," said Renee Potter, a student teaching program coordinator at SUNY Cortland. "As a former teacher myself, really turning over my classroom for an extended period of time to a student is really kind of a scary thing. Classroom teachers are dealing with so many expectations and requirements."
Some student teachers have been forced to travel farther from campus than they have in the past in order to earn their required time in the classroom.
