PITTSFORD, N.Y. - Before today, only two players had shot a 6-under 64 at Oak Hill during tournament play. Those players, Ben Hogan and Curtis Strange.
That number was matched and then surpassed today at the 2013 PGA Championship. First Webb Simpson tied the record by shooting a 64 in the pouring rain. The record round would only stand for a couple more hours.
Walking up the 18th fairway, Jason Dufner was 7-under par with a chance to not only set a course record but a Major Championship record. No player has ever shot a 62 during play of a Major. Dufner with a chance at the record setting 62, left his birdie putt just short but would tap in for par and a 63. A record setting 63, passing the mark set by Hogan, Strange and Simpson.
