Night 5K for Wheatland crash victims
LeRoy, N.Y. On Saturday night, hundreds lined the track at LeRoy High School.
Putting their longtime rivalry aside, LeRoy came out to support and walk with the Caledonia-Mumford community.
Its been one month since a deadly crash in Wheatland that killed Talyor Bitten, Christopher and Emily Peterson and seriously hurt Joanne Kruchten and Michaela Murphy.
They were on their way back from a summer school program when the car they were riding in was hit by a tractor trailer at the corner of Riga Mumford Road and North Road.
It's really moving to see everyone get together and everything like from our communities and the communities surrounding, said Jessica Garland of Caledonia-Mumford.
Garland was walking with her teammate Adrianna Molisiani, both played soccer last season with Emily Peterson.
I remember she was so nice and it's still, I can't believe she's gone, said Molisiani.
Even those who didnt know any of the victims felt the need to show their support.
I came out tonight to show my support for Cal-Mum and all my family and friends who live in Cal-Mum and for the families that suffered the tragedy to let them know they're not alone, said Kylynn Arthur of LeRoy.
Organizers say over 600 people came from surrounding communities to run or walk in the 5K. Luminaries adorned with memories and messages lit the way for participants.
I think when something like this happens we sort of put aside rivalry and we all become a part of a larger human family, said race organizer Pat Privatera.
All proceeds Saturday are going to the families of all five accident victims.
