Remembering man shot dead this week
Rochester, N.Y. - After a violent week in the city, a community is searching for answers and an end to the violence.
Two days after a fatal shooting on Lyell Avenue, family and friends of the victim came out to remember 22-year-old Raheem Williams and take a stand against violence in the city.
We are losing not just young African-American men, but we are losing young Latino mothers to senseless killing, said Williams cousin Dorothy Tisdale who had a clear message at the vigil. Let's stop the killing.
We're trying to convey we don't want revenge, we forgive, said Minister Vandell Marshall. We want justice we want answers as far as why.
Williams was killed by a stray bullet on the corner of Lyell and Saratoga Avenues Thursday evening.
A family friend told 13WHAM he was in the area shopping at the corner store.
David Campbell, 36, who was also shot Thursday, was at the vigil.
He stood by on crutches as balloons were released for Williams.
It's still surreal for them [Williams family] they're still trying to put the pieces together, said Marshall.
Rochester police are still looking for the gunman who was last seen on a bicycle.
