Missing child case closed in minutes

Geneseo, N.Y. - Buffalo Police issued an alert for a missing six-year-old, a girl they say was taken from her father. The information about the case was placed in the license plate reading system used by the Livingston County Sheriffs Office.

Stephanie Cornay Adams of Alexandria, Virginia was found with her daughter driving on State Highway 36 in Mt. Morris, according to the sheriffs office.

It was surprising and thats why I confirmed it with the dispatcher, but they confirmed it, said Deputy Stephanie Schroeder.

The license plate reader spotted Adams' vehicle. It was a mere thirty minutes before she was found and arrested.

She really didn't think she had done anything wrong, she wasn't really reacting that she was guilty of anything she thought that she had every right to take her child at that time, Schroeder said.

A child being abducted, that first three hours is the most important so you want to make sure you get that information out quickly, said James Szczesniak, Livingston County Undersheriff.

Adams faces charges of criminal contempt and custodial interference, according to the sheriffs office.

Both Adams and her daughter were brought back to Buffalo.
