Community holds vigil for Matthew Straton

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Just a week after Matthew Stratons body was found buried behind 27 Rowley Street in Rochester, those close to the 32-year-old held a candlelight vigil in remembrance Saturday afternoon.

He was very generous. Good to his friends and good to his family, said Sara Passamonte. Hed bend over backwards, literally give up his bed for people.

The Straton family made it clear during the vigil, they are seeking justice for their son. Straton first went missing in late October. His mother Kym said they posted missing person flyers around the neighborhood, including near the home where Stratons body was found.

Police say the homeowner, Dr. William Lewek, buried Stratons body in the backyard.

Lewek has been charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and tampering with physical evidence. He has since posted bail.

Straton said, This man took many things away from Matt, and many things away from his family and friends, so were here today just to make sure that he pays for what he did.

Straton also told 13WHAM the family is overwhelmed by the community support, and will always cherish Matthews memories in their hearts.

Part of my heart is gone, she said. Part of my heart was buried the other day with my son. Life will never, ever be the same.
