Teller, customer help nab bank robbery suspects
Albion, N.Y. - Two suspects made off with nearly $18,000 in cash from the Bank of America on South Main Street, but they didn't get too far.
The bank robbery happened in Albion around 4 o'clock Tuesday.
Police say a man walked in and threatened the clerk with what appeared to be an explosive device.
A quick-thinking bank employee signaled to a customer at the drive-thru window that there was a robbery in progress. That customer followed the suspect--who confronted and threatened the customer.
The customer was able to give police a description of the suspect's car and the two people inside.
Jeremy Rothmund and Elyse Hoffer of Greece were arrested a short time later in Holley.
Both suspects were charged with robbery, grand larceny and placing a false bomb or hazardous substance.
The money was recovered and the device was found to be false.
Both Rothmund and Huffer were arraigned in the Town of Albion court and placed in the Orleans County Jail on $250,000.00 bail each.
They are scheduled to re-appear on July 10.
Captain Pat Phelan of Greece Police confirmed that Rothmund will face charges for two recent bank robberies in Greece. Those would be the two in June -- Key Bank at Latta Road on June 10, and Citizens Bank in Northgate Plaza on June 19.
