Pittsford prepares for thousands of visitors

Pittsford, N.Y. In a few days time, tens of thousands of people will be in Pittsford for the PGA Championships at Oak Hill Country Club and the Buffalo Bills Training Camp at St. John Fisher College.

The two large sporting events will take place less than a mile away from each other. The Bills training camp will start this Friday while the PGA Championship starts on August 5. The two events overlap for a week in August.

Most of the residents in Pittsford say they are looking forward to the events being in town.

Im excited, said Pittsford resident Stacy Hollenbeck. There is definitely a lot of buzz about it and it will be interesting to see if the players have down time and they will be walking around town.

Businesses are also looking to capitalize on the influx of people.

Were expecting big, big crowds, said Michael Wood, a manager at Back Nine Grill. What we're going to do is make it more event type atmosphere. We're going to have a tent up with live music so people can come out and have fun. Were expecting a ton of people.

Wood said the restaurant and bar is used to seeing big crowds for events like the World Cup or the Olympics, but he doesnt know what to expect when both the PGA Championship and Bills training camp are in town.

Wood plans to triple the serving staff during the PGA Championship week and extend business hours.

Many people also expect traffic and congestion to be an issue in Pittsford during this time, but they dont seem to mind.

We're kind of used to it, Hollenbeck said. I know [the events] will bring a lot of money to local businesses, a lot of excitement and lots of lots of visitors, so hopefully that will outweigh the bad.
