RG&E provides supplies to Wayne County customers without power

Sodus, N.Y. – RG&E helped provide relief to areas hardest hit by Friday’s thunderstorms.

Crews handed out dry ice and water bottles to customers at Wolcott and Sodus fire departments Sunday, helping them until power is restored. They'll do so again from 9 a.m. until noon on Monday.

RG&E said crews will work through the night Sunday and expect to have power restored to the Sodus area by noon Monday. It’s expected to be back to most of the Rochester area by 11 p.m. Sunday.

Kit Wahl, Sodus fire chief, said the supplies are much needed, as many residents are without water or have spoiled food.

“They're overwhelmed that people are giving this out,” Wahl said. “It's a nice thing to do because people they need the ice. Dry ice lasts a lot longer than regular ice, and that one guy said it will probably last three to four days to keep their coolers cool.”
