After murder, child sex abuse, Syracuse man apologizes

Syracuse, N.Y. - The man accused of killing a librarian and sexually abusing her 10-year-old daughter admitted to his crimes Wednesday.

"I do not fully understand what led me to commit these crimes,” David Renz said, “but even if I did, an explanation is not a justification, nor does it lessen my responsibility for what I have done."

Renz, 29, admitted to carjacking the two at a suburban Syracuse shopping mall and stabbing the woman to death as she tried to prevent him from raping the girl.

He apologized to the victims. "I am truly sorry for my actions and I am prepared to accept the consequences for them."

Renz is expected to be sentenced to life in prison without parole.
