Pit bull left outside, no food or water

Seneca, N.Y. A Stanley woman was arrested for animal cruelty Thursday after leaving a dog outside in the heat without food and water.

Following a report, the Ontario County Sheriffs department discovered a 1-year-old pit bull in a wire cage outside of 3419 County Road #20. The cage was allegedly sitting in direct sunlight on a concrete surface and the dog did not have any food or water.

The owner of the home, Maria Chiarilli, 50, was arrested and charged with cruelty to animals and failure to provide proper food and drink to an impounded animal. She was issued an appearance ticket and will appear in the Seneca Town Court at a later date.

Authorities say Chiarilli was dog-sitting while the pit bulls owner was out of state. The dog was seized and is in the care of the Ontario County Humane Society.
