Public comments on Inner Loop plans

Rochester, N.Y. The public got a chance to weigh in on a plan to fill in part of the Inner Loop Wednesday night.

City leaders want to fill the sunken highway between Monroe Avenue and Charlotte Street a stretch that goes right through the popular East End.

The goal is to increase traffic safety, reconnect neighborhoods, and create new opportunities for mixed-use development.

Christopher Spinelli is the co-owner of the Roc Brewing Company on Union Street, right in front of the proposed project.  Overall, hes in favor of it.

I like the idea for the most part, Spinelli said.  There are some things I have concerns about the biggest being construction during that time and how it affects us, but I think afterward there will be a great benefit to our business.

The city says preliminary engineering plans will be finalized by next summer, and construction could start as soon as next fall if funding comes through.
