Family says body found is missing teen
Rochester, N.Y. -- Family members confirm the body found in the Genesee River Thursday morning is that of 16-year-old Sterling Williams.
Toya Williams, Sterlings mother, said dental records were used to positively ID the body and the Medical Examiners office confirmed the familys fears just after 5 p.m.
There is really nothing negative I could say about Sterling, Williams aunt, Kisha Smith said. Sterling had a good heart, he respected and loved everyone.
Williams body was found on the west side of the river, just north of the Elmwood Street bridge.
The teens family was about to search for him near the river today, when police received the report of the body found. We got so many different emotions going through us right now, Smith said, This is unreal.
Investigators said a pedestrian spotted the body, while on the footpath along the water around 9 a.m.
Williams was last seen Sunday night near the University of Rochester at Genesee Valley Park, a few hundred feet from where the body was found. According to family members, Williams was with about a dozen other boys at the park, but none have been able to explain what happened to Williams.
He was the only one who didnt make it out of the park that night, so we need some answers, Dickerson said, We need to know what happened to Sterling.
Reported missing Monday, Police were investigating his disappearance, and searched the park with K9 units.
Officers at the scene this morning said there was no reason to suspect foul play.
