Police looking for man who robbed jogger

Police are looking for the man who robbed a female undergraduate student at the University of Rochester while she was on a jog.

It happened on Genesee Street near Spruce Avenue on the morning of Wednesday August 7.

According to the Rochester Police Department, the man approached the student from behind and grabbed her phone from her hand, knocking the victim to the ground, before fleeing west on Spruce Avenue.

The student returned home and called 9-1-1, but police were not able to find the suspect.

Officers said the woman was scraped in the fall, but declined medical attention.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Rochester Police Department at 9-1-1 or campus security at 585-275-3333.

Campus Security reminded students to be aware of their surroundings and limit use of personal electronic devices in public.

There are a number of apps users can install on their mobile phones to locate or lock the devices if stolen.
