Maserati brings presence to Henrietta

Henrietta, N.Y. -- When the Maseratis arrived at Dorschels Henrietta dealership this week, customers quickly began to investigate the auto blocks newest luxury brand.

I like nice cars and this is a wonderful car, stated former machinist Frederick Headd.

We really didnt have anything that slotted in above Lexus and Infiniti, said Will Trafton, Chief Operating Officer for Dorschel.

Maserati joins Mercedes, Porsche and Lexus on West Henrietta Road.

Some of the newly built dealership facilities that have popped up on West Henrietta Road came because it was required by the manufacturers, according to Trafton.

But there is a change in the luxury auto market.

With the new caf requirements a lot of luxury manufacturers are pushing down market, explained Trafton. They are offering more fuel efficient offerings generally with lower M.S.R.P. (Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price).

In November, Dorschels Maserati dealership will offer an $80,000 Ghilbi, a steep discount compared to its $140,000 Gran Tourismo MC.

You have to get in the mix as I would say, you want to grab share, grab profits, said George Cook, Executive Professor at the Simon Business School.

Cook believes the luxury car saturation is good for Rochester.

Why wouldnt we want to have that economic growth in the luxury car market in Rochester, questioned Cook. Rather than see them go to New York City (or) Toronto.

Id say its a very good thing, added Brady McAreavy, President of Rochester Automobile Dealers Association.

The industry is moving in the right direction locally, and nationally,
