Women's health fair at public market

Rochester, N.Y.- Next month, there will be a health screening fair at the Rochester Public Market, just for women.

City leaders are teaming up with the University of Rochester Medical Center for the fifth-annual Women's Health Screening Fair. It will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, September 7.

The fair this year will offer a variety of free health screenings to adult women from ages 18 to 80, including tests for AIDS/HIV, osteoporosis, breast health, heart disease, stroke risk, dental problems, diabetes, glaucoma, kidney disease, lead poisoning, mental health issues and skin and colon cancer.

Information booths will be available to Ask the MD, Ask the Ob/Gyn, Ask the Nutritionist and Ask the Pharmacist. Help for smoking cessation and also for insurance enrollment will be offered for those in need.

"Promoting women's health requires personal responsibility, but also community action," said Dr. Jim Woods. "The Women's Health Screening Fair at the Rochester Public Market confirms this commitment. Results from our four prior fairs revealed numerous participants with serious health risk factors. Once again we are urging women to 'spend an hour with us' and we will give you back a lifetime of health."

At Mondays press conference, Mayor Tom Richards presented the Key to the City to Dr. Woods for his contributions and advocacy to address women's health care.
