Henrietta casino discussed

Buffalo, N.Y. - The proposed Henrietta casino is far from finalized, according to Seneca Nation President Barry Snyder.

Snyder talked about the proposal, which was announced last week, at Tuesday night's grand opening of the Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino on Buffalo's waterfront.

He said he does not know where the casino would go adding it does not have to be built in Buffalo.

"We're trying to get our ducks in a line," he said.

Snyder also acknowledged the New York State Gaming Compact, which allows the Seneca Nation of Indians to operate casinos, would have to be amended.

The compact states the Nation can only operate 3 casinos in western New York.

A casino in the Rochester area would be its fourth.

Snyder also addressed complaints from local, state and federal lawmakers who were upset they were not looped in and were, therefore, surprised by the announcement.

"Maybe we surprised them but we've been talking about doing this for years," Snyder said. "We hope to help Rochester and western New York."
