Post Puerto Rican Fest updated numbers
Rochester, N.Y.-- Rochester Police Chief James M. Sheppard released new numbers Monday in connection to arrests that happened after the Puerto Rican Festival Sunday night.
Post Festival Statistics:
Post Festival Arrests: 27 Males 23, Females 4
*Disorderly Conduct 22
*Obstructing Governmental Admin. 2nd 1
*Resisting Arrest 1
Approximate number of officers for post festival: 100
Traffic Tickets Written: 39
Estimated financial expenditure for PR festival: between $35-40K
Police overtime to handle the crowds was the main contributor to the estimated financial expenditure. That was about the same amount of money that RPD spent to handle the Park Avenue Festival.
Chief Sheppard said investigators used Long Range Acoustic Devices and pepperballs to assist with crowd dispersal. There was also one police car damaged in the disturbance.
The annual festival itself, held this year at Frontier Field, finished without any problems. It saw crowds of about 8,000 people each day. The post-festival situation has been much the same in recent years, with arrests made soon after the festival ends.
Rochester police say these numbers are preliminary, and updated numbers will be released later this week.
