CC PAC grand opening this week
Chili, N.Y.-- Pay-off this school year for students in the Churchville-Chili School District who have endured almost three years of construction.
Every part of the high school has been touched in some way - new ceilings, new paint, new floors, a new science wing, and smart boards in just about every room. The most anticipated part of the project is a new performing arts center. They call CC PAC.
The final details were still being measured inside CC PAC as students arrived Wednesday morning.
It's a space award winning actor and Churchville-Chili junior Myles Forsett had been waiting to see when he told us, "I haven't even been in the auditorium yet but I've seen pictures and I've seen them from the outside and it looks fantastic. I can't wait to get in there."
He didn't have to wait long. We were with him as he saw it for the first time.
"Whoa!... it's so big, it's nice!" he said alongside fellow juniors and chorus members Caroline Bernitt and Brooke Ennis.
The combination of wood and concrete on the walls and a shell on stage make it great acoustically.
Bernitt told us, "We are very fortunate to have the auditorium. Some people don't get what we get and I think it's great that we have this opportunity."
CC PAC will host performances at the elementary, middle and high school levels as well as regional competitions and a joint performance with the RPO in October.
CC PAC and the rest of the $56 million in improvements were paid for through state aid and the capital reserve fund.
Richard Dunham, Director of Fine Arts and Special Programs in the district stressed it's a space for the entire community to use and one he thinks they already appreciate.
"I think in Monroe County in general we are fairly lucky in that the people who live here want the arts and want their children to have as many opportunities as possible," he said.
A ribbon cutting for the new CC PAC is Friday at 5:30 p.m. The public is invited.
Tickets for the October 18th RPO performance go on sale Thursday the 12th.
