NY State Fair director stepping down after 8 mos.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - The Cuomo administration says the director of the New York State Fair is stepping down after just eight months on the job.
The state Department of Agriculture and Markets announced Wednesday that it will form a search committee to find a successor to State Fair Director Thomas J. Ryan. Former Syracuse Mayor Matt Driscoll, head of the state Environmental Facilities Corp., will lead the search effort.
State officials gave no reason for Ryan's departure after less than a year running the State Fair, held every summer in the Syracuse suburb of Geddes.
Ryan was named to the $136,000-a-year job in February after stints with the Thruway Authority and Canal Corp. He replaced Dan O'Hara, State Fair director since 2007.
A state report criticized O'Hara for helping steer a contract to former colleagues.
