WWFD hosts open house

Webster, N.Y. Its been a trying year for the West Webster Fire Department, but Sunday it took time to show its appreciation for the community.

The fire department hosted its annual open house, featuring live demonstrations and displays focusing on fire prevention and safety, as well as a new room dedicated to the community for its outpouring of support following the Christmas Eve ambush.

The open house is meant to be entertaining and informative for families the goal being to have them prepared for the rare event of a fire-related emergency.

We see it day in and day out, so it's pretty cemented in our minds, firefighter Al Sienkiewicz said. The average person only calls the fire department once or twice in their life, hopefully, if at all, so fire safety and prevention probably isn't where it should be. If we can just highlight it with events like today's, that's what we're trying to do.
