Orleans County corrections officer injured during inmate altercation

Albion, N.Y. - An Orleans County Correction Officer was injured at the County Jail Wednesday morning.

According to the Orleans County Sheriffs Office, Officer Janet Koehler was hurt during an altercation with Jeremy Rothmund, 30, shortly before 10:30 a.m.

Authorities said Rothmund is currently being held in connection with an Albion bank robbery that occurred in July.

Officer Koehler was transported to Medina Memorial Hospital and is being evaluated for non-life threatening injuries. 

The sheriff's office said charges against Rothmund are pending and the incident will be investigated by the New York State Commission of Correction.
