Plant closing delayed in Livingston Co.

Livingston Co., N.Y. - A controversial pumping station in Livingston County must continue operations, at least until next month.

Akzo-Nobel is the company responsible for a salt mine collapse in the 90s.

Because of that collapse, the company built a facility to keep salt from seeping into a nearby aquifer.

The company asked the state for permission to shut down the plant, which has some people and lawmakers concerned.

The Department of Environmental conservation is making them pump until November 14.

What happens after that is unclear. A public meeting will be held in November before any action is taken.
