Suspect in Capitol chase had history of mental issues
Washington -- The mother of the suspect in the deadly chase at the US Capitol Thursday afternoon says her daughter had a history of mental problems.
That suspect is believed to be 34-year-old Miriam Carey of Stanford, Connecticut. Her mother tells ABC News that Carey had a history of mental issues and has suffered from post-partum depression following the recent birth of her daughter. The 1-year-old was in the car when Carey first tried to ram a barricade near the White House, then taking off toward police officers. Police then shot and killed her.
No weapons were found. Overnight, police searched Careys home in Stanford. Investigators say while the motive behind the incident is unclear, it is not an act of terrorism.
A Secret Service member and Capitol Police officer were hurt, but are expected to recover.
