Port of Oswego gets 192K grant

Oswego, N.Y. - The only deep-water port on the U.S. shores of Lake Ontario is getting nearly $200,000 in federal funding.

Local media report that Congressmen Dan Maffei and Richard Hanna announced Tuesday that the Port of Oswego Authority has been awarded a $192,000 federal grant.

The funds will be used for a project that includes a new rail spur and additional storage areas for rail cars at the port.

The congressmen sought the grant to help the port to keep up with increased business. The new grant is in addition to the $1.5 million the U.S. Department of Transportation awarded the port in in August for a new rail link.
