Free rides for voters

Rochester, N.Y. - The calls began early Wednesday and continued through the afternoon.

Democratic, Republican, Green and Independence Parties have been offering free transportation to voters in need.

Typically I walk, said Mary Lewis of Rochester. I havent been feeling well, so I am getting a ride.

She called the campaign headquarters for Lovely Warren, Democratic Candidate for Mayor in the City of Rochester.

I dont own a car or anything so it would have to be a bus or walk, said Steven Dempsey of Rochester.

Monroe County Democrat and Republican headquarters have also been fielding calls, same goes for Green and Independence parties.

People are really appreciative of it, said Phyllis Matthews of the Rochester Chapter of the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists, a non-partisan group offering free transportation to polling sites.

Last minute voters

Most of the free rides will end before polls close at 9 p.m.
