Report: NSA monitors 5B cell phones every day

Washington - Nearly five billion cell phones are being monitored by the NSA every day according to a new report by the Washington Post.

That includes phones belonging to Americans overseas.

The newspaper says the agency gathers the U.S. location records by tapping into worldwide mobile network cables.

Such information means the NSA can track movements of almost any cell phone in the world as well as gathering information on the person who receives the call.

The NSA has not commented on the reports so far.
